Prize Money for the Dubai World Cup

The prize money for the Dubai World Cup 2020 amounts to 12 million US dollars, making it the second richest horse race in the world after the Saudi Cup (20 million US dollars). Until 2019, the Pegasus World Cup, with a total value of 16 million US dollars, was the most valuable race in the world, but it has since been split into two separate races.

History of Horse Racing in Dubai

Horse racing in Dubai began in October 1981, when the first Thoroughbred race was held at the dusty Camel Track. Ten years later, in 1992, the Dubai Racing Club was established under the leadership of Colonel Ali Khamis Al Jafleh, a commander in the United Arab Emirates Air Force. In the same year, Nad Al Sheba Racecourse was opened, and a year later, on 26 March 1993, the first Dubai International Jockeys’ Challenge (DIJC) took place. Five teams of two jockeys competed in the event, including well-known riders from the United States, Europe, Australia, Japan and the United Arab Emirates. This paved the way for the establishment of the Dubai Cup. The first Dubai Cup was held in 1996.

Meydan Racecourse

The Meydan Racecourse was built specifically for the Dubai World Cup and opened in 2010. The track was constructed on the former site of Nad Al Sheba Racecourse. The entire complex covers an area of 7.5 million square metres. The estimated cost of the project was 1.25 billion US dollars.

Meydan Grandstand

The Meydan Grandstand is the world’s largest integrated racing facility with a capacity of over 60,000 seats. The Meydan Hotel offers 285 luxury rooms and suites, and the complex also includes a marina, an IMAX cinema and a racing museum.

Coronavirus: Has Private Jet Charter in Asia been suspended?

The spread of the coronavirus is affecting travel to and from China, as well as other frequently visited cities in Asia and Eastern Europe. Several continents have even reduced the number of flights to and from these regions by up to 50%. The safest option? Fly privately and reduce the risk of infection by avoiding crowded airports and congested commercial flights.

Coronavirus: Has Private Jet Charter in Asia been suspended?

Can private jets fly to cities with reported coronavirus cases?

Although it is best to avoid flying to cities experiencing outbreaks, we understand that this is not always possible. While there are still significant restrictions on flights to and from China, other cities remain accessible.

We are closely monitoring the situation and advise our clients to travel to affected areas only with caution.

What we can take comfort in is the fact that private flights can offer a safer way to travel to these destinations. With a healthy crew on board, you avoid the risk of infection from recirculated cabin air found on commercial aircraft. Airport crowds and public facilities can also be avoided, meaning minimal time is spent in public spaces.

Your safety is our top priority – if you have any questions regarding coronavirus and upcoming travel plans, please do not hesitate to contact us. Our helpful team will advise you professionally on whether, when and how you can travel to your destination.

How far are we from electric aircraft?

The aviation industry has developed enormously since the Wright brothers and has continuously evolved and improved over time. The performance of private jets is constantly being optimised through advances in engine technology and cabin systems, making them more efficient than ever before. The next major breakthrough?

Electric aircraft

Electric aircraft

How far are we from electric aircraft?

Although it will still be some time before we see electric aircraft operated by airlines such as British Airways, business aviation is not too far behind. Several small electric aviation projects are already beyond the early development stage and have completed test flights.

Why does this matter for business aviation / private jets?

Battery capacity is at the heart of electric aviation. While batteries and electric motors are advancing rapidly, electric aircraft are currently limited in range and passenger capacity. As a result, the first certified electric passenger aircraft are likely to be smaller and designed for shorter routes – ideally matching the type of flights where private jets are commonly used.

This is extremely exciting – within a few years, many private flights could be operated by electric aircraft. Our goal is to embrace this technology and offer our clients 100% electric private charter flights as soon as it becomes possible.

The development of electric aircraft

There are currently around 200 electric aircraft programmes in development worldwide. To give you an idea of where the industry stands today, here are some key milestones from recent years.

2014: Pipistrel Alpha Electro, the world’s first two-seat electric training aircraft for flight schools.

2014: Airbus E-Fan by Airbus, also intended for pilot training. However, as technology and batteries improved faster than expected, it was withdrawn in 2017 to make way for the E-Fan X programme.

2017: E-Fan X – a far more ambitious hybrid-electric project by Airbus. The goal was to fly a 2 MW aircraft by the early 2020s. The first flight was planned for 2021.

2017: Alice by Eviation – development of one of the most promising electric aircraft concepts began in Israel in 2017. Alice can carry nine passengers over a range of 1,045 km. Destinations include Paris, Geneva, Nice and London – key cities for European business aviation. The company estimated significantly lower operating costs compared to jet-powered aircraft. The first flight was planned for 2020, with certification targeted for 2022.

2019: Ampaire developed the hybrid Electric EEL aircraft. It seats six passengers and features an electric rear motor and a battery integrated into the fuselage. Certification and entry into service were planned for 2021.

2019: magniX and Harbour Air made headlines in December 2019 with the successful flight of the world’s first fully electric commercial aircraft. The ePlane, a six-seat DHC-2 de Havilland Beaver powered by a 750 hp (560 kW) magni500 propulsion system, flew on 10 December 2019 on the Fraser River at Harbour Air Seaplanes Terminal in Richmond (YVR South).

2019: Rolls-Royce and Widerøe, Scandinavia’s largest regional airline, announced a joint research programme in electric aviation. The aim is to develop an electric concept to help Norway achieve zero emissions by 2030 and eventually replace Widerøe’s regional fleet.

The third revolution in aviation has begun – and it is electric. Aerospace companies around the world are working together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and electric aircraft are seen as one of the most promising solutions.

We are passionate about this development and excited to see what the next decade will bring. We hope to offer our clients 100% electric charter flights by 2030!

What are the most expensive things in the world that money can buy?

From yachts and private islands to tickets to space… what is the most expensive thing in the world? In this article, we share six of the most expensive things in the world that money can buy.

Tickets to space

Astronauts are now inviting us to join them in space, as thanks to Richard Branson and the space flights offered by his company Virgin Galactic, it is now possible to book tickets into space. Space tests have paved the way for safe commercial space travel. Isn’t that incredible? Even better, the first space tourism flights were expected as early as 2020! For just 250,000 US dollars per person, you can enjoy a 90-minute flight and look down at Earth from space.

Fossils

As with most things that are ancient, rare and irreplaceable, it is no surprise that dinosaur fossils have made this list. In 2018, an unidentified buyer at an auction in Paris paid more than 2.5 million US dollars for a dinosaur fossil. The odds of fossilisation are estimated at one in a million, making ownership of a fossil truly exceptional.

the most expensive things in the world

Golden toilet

For centuries, gold has been a symbol of wealth, prosperity and power. And when it comes to protecting wealth, gold is often considered a better store of value than cash in times of inflation. In Hong Kong, a jeweller spent 3.5 million US dollars on an entirely gold bathroom, including a 24-carat solid gold toilet. Now that is luxury!

Private islands

A private island is the ultimate way to escape the hustle and enjoy a secluded private holiday. Island prices range from hundreds of thousands of dollars to several million. Private islands are a status symbol shaped by fragile environments, which is why minimising your carbon footprint is recommended. One of our favourite examples is that of actor and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio, who is planning to build a highly sustainable eco-resort on a small island in Belize, powered entirely by renewable energy.

Luxury superyachts

When it comes to superyachts, one of our favourites is Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich and his yacht “Eclipse”, estimated to have cost up to 1 billion US dollars. His yacht features two helipads, a missile defence system, two swimming pools, a cinema and a restaurant. The best thing about a yacht is that it can be customised to your wishes. Other extravagant features on superyachts include lecture halls, laboratories, a gold-lined aquarium made of 68 kg of 24-carat gold, basketball courts and much more.

Private jets

And last but not least, the most luxurious thing money can buy is the freedom to travel wherever and whenever you want. Business jets and private aircraft for leisure offer this unique flexibility. However, you do not need to be a millionaire to enjoy this level of independence. Flying private is more accessible than you might think, as you avoid the costs and responsibilities of owning an aircraft. How many of these items can you tick off your list? Have we missed any of the most expensive things? We know there are things money cannot buy – but there is no harm in enjoying the things it can.

Private flying, as the name suggests, is a significantly more enjoyable experience than travelling on a commercial aircraft. If you value comfort and convenience as well as a professional and discreet service, then travelling by private jet is the right choice for you.

You avoid endless queues, chaotic airport crowds, and you do not need to remove your shoes during security checks. When flying with Private Jet Charter, you eliminate unnecessary stress and hassle from your journey.

To set the right expectations regarding the security procedures of most private jet charters, let’s take a look at the top 5 most frequently asked questions.

Security process for Private Jet Charter flights

Do passengers travelling by private jet go through security screening?

Yes, but unlike commercial flights, you use private jet terminals (FBOs), allowing you to board very quickly. This does not mean a compromise in security. You are personally escorted through a private terminal, and customs and immigration procedures are fast and secure.

  • TIP: If colleagues, family members or pets join at the last minute, they can proceed directly to departure, provided they have all required documentation.

Do I need identification when flying privately?

Yes, depending on your destination, an ID card, passport or visa may be required. We take the protection of our clients and their privacy seriously, so you can trust that your data is handled securely.

  • TIP: Your ID or passport details are collected at the time of booking and forwarded to the operator before the flight for coordination with national border authorities. This ensures a fast and smooth boarding process.

How early do I need to arrive at the airport when flying privately?

Depending on the airport, it can take between 5 and 30 minutes from arrival to boarding. We understand how valuable your time is, which is why your Private Jet Charter advisors will keep you updated on the estimated timing.

  • TIP: In private aviation, you are the focus, not the aircraft. If you are flying privately for the first time, please note that you do not go through the main terminal’s “fast track” security, but instead use the executive terminal operated by the FBO.

What are the baggage allowances for private jet charter?

As there are no queues, your baggage is scanned quickly. Private flights are designed to save time from start to finish, allowing you to board with minimal hassle. The amount of baggage permitted depends on the size of the aircraft and the number of passengers. The baggage hold of a small jet, such as a Gulfstream, can accommodate up to 20 large suitcases, or around two per person.

  • TIP: There are no strict limits on your cabin liquids allowance, so you can bring your favourite shampoo or skincare products without worrying about liquid restrictions.

Can I take an important phone call during a private jet flight?

Yes. You will have access to reliable Wi-Fi and a satellite phone onboard. This is one of the many benefits of flying privately. No one can see your screen or listen to confidential calls. You can either remain productive or relax and enjoy the VIP onboard service.

  • TIP: Although security remains a priority, Private Jet Charter focuses heavily on VIP customer service, so a degree of flexibility regarding mobile phone use can be expected.

Gulfstream Aerospace has recently unveiled its latest jet – the G700. The new G700 combines features from the G650ER and G500/600, has a range of at least 7,500 nm, and features a cabin with five living areas and 20 G650-sized windows.

The first two test aircraft have already left production and are now undergoing several months of ground testing. The first planned flight is expected to take place in the first half of next year. A full-service version of the G700 is expected to follow in 2020.

“This will be the largest aircraft we have ever built. It will have the widest, tallest and longest cabin in the industry. The G650 set the standard… the G700 is once again ground-breaking.” – Mark Burns, President of Gulfstream.

G700

Highlights

  • Spacious cabin with 5 living areas
  • Jet ConneX Ka-band Wi-Fi
  • Fully equipped galley – Gulfstream notes that you can bring a chef on board to prepare fresh meals
  • Twenty oval panoramic windows – the largest in business aviation
  • Windows in the en-suite lavatory – a Gulfstream first
  • 40-inch 4K TV screen
  • True circadian lighting system simulating sunrise and sunset
  • Sleeping space for up to 10 passengers, maximum 19 passengers

The G700 is an approximately three-metre longer evolution of the G650, sharing the same wing, nose and symmetrical flight deck. The new tail, curved winglets, Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines and redesigned cabin make it a truly all-new aircraft.

Space, comfort and luxury are the focus of the G700 cabin. The first of the five zones includes a lavatory, storage space, a three-seat divan and an ultra-galley with a three-metre-long counter, large refrigerator, microwave, conventional oven, and storage for dishes, food and beverages.

The second section offers seating in a four-club layout with newly designed seats for enhanced comfort. Particularly impressive – the seats are available in different fabrics, finishes and firmness levels.

Gulfstream G700

Next is the entertainment zone. Here you will find a three-seat divan facing a retractable 40-inch 4K flat screen. With an immersive 3D sound system that turns the sidewalls into speakers, you will quickly forget you are on an aircraft.

The fourth section is the dining area. It is configured in a six-club layout and includes a quick-deploy table spanning the full width. The table also hides a built-in wireless charging pad, allowing passengers to charge their smartphones simply by placing them on the surface.

Finally, we enter the bedroom with a large bed, a dresser, and a private bathroom with toilet, sink and generous storage space. A rear door in the lavatory provides access during the flight to the 195 cu ft baggage compartment, which can hold over 1,100 kg.

It goes without saying that we are very excited to welcome the G700 into our global fleet.

Both helicopter and jet charter offer a range of benefits. However, travelling by helicopter is often the better choice than travelling by private jet.

Advantages of helicopter charter

Helicopter charter provides a level of flexibility that is difficult to match with fixed-wing aircraft. The most obvious advantage of a helicopter is point-to-point travel.

Thanks to their versatile design and ability to adapt to a wide range of requirements, helicopters provide access to remote areas as well as city centres. They can land on helipads, hotels and even private properties, making them one of the most flexible and suitable aircraft for reaching remote, crowded or hard-to-access destinations.

  • No time wasted in traffic or at the airport
  • The ideal transport option for reaching multiple destinations in a single day
  • Can land wherever space permits
Helicopter charter

When is helicopter charter the right choice?

The versatility of helicopters makes them ideal for business use or for transfers from the airport to ski resorts, sports stadiums, yachts or events. If you have multiple meetings, a helicopter is the perfect way to travel between locations in a single day.

Advantages of fixed-wing aircraft

Advantages of private jets

Fixed-wing aircraft, or private jets, also offer numerous advantages. They enable travel to longer-distance destinations and can accommodate more passengers. Onboard facilities, which may include beds or a kitchen, allow for a more comfortable journey.

  • Suitable for both short and long-haul travel
  • Reduces the need for overnight stays
  • Minimises time spent at the airport and overall travel time
  • Pet-friendly
  • Flexible – travel on your own schedule

In other words, helicopter charter is an excellent choice for shorter distances or multi-stop itineraries in a single day, while private jets are best suited for longer distances.

Extensive aircraft fleet

Private Jet Charter offers a substantial fleet of private aircraft available for charter worldwide. From turboprops and light jets (for short-haul travel) to VIP airliners (for long-haul travel and large groups), as well as helicopters.

Browse all aircraft by size. If you prefer a specific manufacturer, such as Embraer, Learjet or Bombardier, you can find a dedicated list here.

At this time of year, our flight teams organise itineraries for private jet and helicopter charters to airports serving the best ski resorts in Europe and the United States.

Every year we receive questions about flights to Courchevel Airport. Its prime location in the heart of the French Alps and proximity to the ski slopes gives the impression that you can ski directly in and out of the airport. However, due to its mountainside location, landing at Courchevel Airport is heavily restricted for safety reasons, as the short runway ends directly at the edge of the mountain.

view of Courchevel altiport

Facts about Courchevel:

Runway length: 547 m (1,762 ft)
Elevation: 2,007 m
18.66% maximum gradient – the steepest in the world
6,000 aircraft movements every winter
First mountain airfield with an uphill runway
Only altiport kept snow-free all year round

What types of aircraft can land at Courchevel Airport?

Although flights to Courchevel Airport (officially known as Courchevel Altiport) are heavily restricted, a number of small aircraft and helicopters operate there. Heavy and large jets are unable to land due to the steep gradient, challenging approach, and the fact that a go-around is not possible. The runway ends directly facing the mountain, making a missed approach extremely hazardous.

A “go-around” is a standard safety procedure in which an aircraft aborts a landing and climbs back into a safe and stable flight path. It is most commonly used when a landing cannot be safely completed.

While some turboprop aircraft do operate at the airport, smaller fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters are far better suited to the airfield.

Can a private jet charter land at Courchevel Airport?

Private jet charter flights can land and depart from Courchevel Airport, provided the aircraft meets the strict operational requirements and the pilot holds the necessary certification for this challenging runway.

helicopter at Courchevel Airport

Can a helicopter charter land at Courchevel Airport?

Helicopter flights are the most common way to travel to and from Courchevel. Helicopters can land and take off easily from the airport. Most clients charter a private jet to a nearby airport such as Chambéry, Grenoble, Geneva or Annecy, all of which are suitable for commercial private jet operations. From there, they book a helicopter transfer directly into Courchevel.

Landing at Courchevel Airport

As mentioned above, private owners may operate small and mid-size jets at the airfield if they are flying their own aircraft. However, for commercial charter operations, stricter safety regulations apply, limiting access to the runway.

For commercial private jet charters, the aircraft’s landing distance is multiplied by 1.6 to determine the required landing distance (LDR). As a result, for most commercial operations, Courchevel’s runway is too short.

Private jet and helicopter charter to Courchevel

Private Jet Charter® recommends that clients charter a private jet to a nearby airport (we recommend Chambéry) and then book a helicopter transfer directly into Courchevel. Request a tailored quote today based on your individual requirements.
